1. When I subscribe, what do I get?

You will gain access to all existing parts of "In This Land," each weekly update for the duration of your subscription, and the password-protected short stories.  Basically, you get access to anything pertaining to "In This Land" that requires a password.  That's 52 parts each year, and all related short stories, for less than $24. "In This Land"  costs only $1.99 a month, which is about the price of a gallon of gas or a cup of coffee.  Neither of which contains explicit sex.

2. Why is my password from PayPal just plain silly?

They all seem to range from silly to flat-out ridiculous.  I was surprised to find that the good people at PayPal have a sense of humor.  They also seem to allow just about any character on the keyboard.

3. What if my password doesn't work?

Unfortunately, it seems that instant access does not happen every single time.  If you try again later with the same username and password, it should work.  So far everyone has been able to log in.  If you keep having trouble, send me an e-mail.  I'll slap it around for you.

4. Are subscription payments secure?

I use PayPal for the subscriptions because they are one of the safest and most trusted ways to purchase things on the Internet.  You can visit www.PayPal.com  to find out more on their extensive security measures and safeguards.

5. Can I subscribe without using PayPal?

Of course you can! There are several options available:

  • Since you don't need a PayPal account to donate, the fastest way would be to donate enough to cover six months ($12) or a year ($24) and then e-mail me to let me know that it is for your subscription.  I will e-mail your username and password.

  • You can use regular mail to send money for six months ($12) or a year ($24) and I will send your username and password to the email address provided in your letter. (Remember to include your email address!)

  • You can purchase a gift certificate for yourself, since they don't require a PayPal account.

  • If you can find another method to get money to me, I'll gladly sign you up myself.

6. Why do I need a PayPal account to subscribe through the regular method?

Without a PayPal account, Paypal can only approve charges to your credit card or checking account for individual purchases.  You need to set up a free account with them to be charged on a monthly basis.  The accounts are very easy to set up, and you don't have to provide your bank account information if you don't want to.

7. Do I need a PayPal account for gift certificates?

No.  When you choose one of the gift certificates, the button at the bottom of the first page says, "Buy Gift Certificate with Paypal."  That is because PayPal will process the payment.  On the next page it says, "If you do not currently have a PayPal account click here."  That's where you enter your credit card information.

8. Is there a lot of information to fill out when I subscribe?

If you have PayPal it's super simple.  All you have to do is log in with your PayPal e-mail address and password, then click "Pay."  You will be given a username and password for "In This Land" on the very next page.

If you don't have PayPal, then yes, you have to do the whole name, address, form of payment, deal.  Sorry.

9. What if I forget my password?

When you subscribe, your username and password are listed in the subscription creation information in your PayPal account.

To find it later, log in to your PayPal account and go to the "History" subtab of the "My Account" tab. Choose "Subscriptions" from the pull-down menu and press the "Submit" button. Click on the Status link for "In This Land Subscription"; the Subscription Details page will list your username and password.

10. Can I subscribe for someone else?

Sure!  If you would like to purchase a subscription for someone else, you can purchase a gift certificate, or subscribe twice and give a friend the username and password that you get the second time.

 11. What does my billing statement say once I subscribe?

Your subscription to "In This Land," donation, or book purchase will appear on your credit card statement as MHT or MHT PAYMENT.

Note: PayPal subscriptions will use the available balance in your PayPal account.  Your credit card will only be charged if that balance is $0.

12. Why isn't "In This Land" free?

I have quite a bit of fiction available for free on this site and my fanfiction site.  I've been writing for free for years and there will still be plenty of free material added to both sites.  "In This Land" is one of the steps I'm taking to support myself with money I earn from writing so that I will have time to write more.  In short, the more people pay, the more everyone gets for free.

13. What if I think that $1.99 is way too cheap for such a kick-ass story?

I'm glad that you feel that way!  You can subscribe as many times as you want.  Or, you can donate in addition to your subscription.

14. What can I do to promote "In This Land?"

Great question!

  • There are banners available here that you can post on MySpace, message boards, blogs, LiveJournals, your own site, and wherever else you want to bring a little Anorian cheer.

  • You can list info about "In This Land" on fiction rec websites or gay fiction e-groups.

  • Word of mouth is the best advertising, so just tell others why you enjoy the story and encourage them to check it out.

15. How do you feel about your subscribers and donors?

I love them all dearly.  I cherish them.  They're wonderful, generous, fantastic people.  I throw a mini party every time someone subscribes.
